I had read about this DVD and decided to give it a try. It says that it is a DVD game, and it plays out kind of like one. The narrative follows a young man simply called Zwei, being trained as an Assassin in the organization Inferno. The DVD has multiple turning points, and you can change the memoir depending on what you buy. The DVD also spouts out passwords for you to engage up where you left off. Which is nice because you won’t do this in one night trust me.

Now on to the right review, like I said before, the DVD pans out like a game, mixing in serene images of CG and anime with a few CG movies every now and then while the voices picture what is happening. The explain acting isn’t awful at all, but you might want to know that it isn’t in English, unbiased Japanese with an option for Subtitles in Japanese or English. This may bother some, but for me it hasn’t been a grunt. The quality of the subtitles is decent, but I have noticed quite a few grammar and spelling errors in them. But they are peaceful understandable.

You should also compose determined that your DVD player can actually handle and play this DVD. This shouldn’t be too hard, since it works on fair about everything, including the Playstation 2. Even if your player can play the DVD, be warned that there is sometimes a bit of load times while the DVD loads up the next scene. The fable overall though isn’t too hard to follow, and it is piquant enough to hold you watching the smooth images.

This might not be for everyone, since its setup is different from most DVD’s. But if you don’t mind doing a exiguous reading, then this will definately gather you attention. The memoir is more than enough to earn up for any of the other minor problems that the DVD presents.

I am a formal Japanese language student, and this is exactly the kind of thing I like to find; a LOT of Japanese dialogue presented in a very intelligent procedure. It took me about 20 hours to play through the interactive anime to only one of the endings, and the anecdote was very absorbing (like a superb book that you fair can’t do down) . I even cried through some of the murky parts ;__;

The audio is only in Japanese, and you have a choice between English, Japanese (to my delight), or no subtitles. The roar actors are very safe and I liked the character CG, despite that they were composed images. Some of the backgrounds aren’t that spacious, but I was concentrating on reading too remarkable for it to bother me ^__^

This DVD is definitely worth it, whether you are learning Japanese or objective looking for a valid memoir. Give it a try!!

The 2002 Newark, Current Jersey Mayoral accelerate is something most voters in the U.S. could care less about. Why should someone in, say, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania pay attention to Newark’s voting issues? Or someone in Fort Worth, Texas? Or San Francisco, California? Realistically, none of them would. But Newark is Fresh Jersey’s most populated city, and those in San Francisco and beyond might want to purchase a peak at what’s happening to our democracy on a pseudo-microcosmic level.

The film’s significant focus is on Cory Booker, a Newark city councilman with his scrutinize on the mayor’s office. He’s a Stanford and Yale graduate who lives in a slum within Newark. He’s an idealist who’s grown tired of his city’s bad schools, poorer neighborhoods, and rising jobless rate. To catch into the mayor’s office, though, he’ll have to unseat four-time incumbent Sharpe James, a man who’s firmly entrenched within Newark’s politics.

We spy as writer/director/photographer Marshall Curry seeks to interview both sides of the speed, first by checking in on Cory Booker’s campaign, then by trying (in vain) to meet up with Sharpe James and his people. But once James’ campaign personnel learn that Curry interviewed Booker already, he is immediately shunned and pushed aside (often in a very rough manner) . Curry’s camera is pushed around time and again, his microphone broken, and he’s denied access to Sharpe James entirely. Even when Curry catches up with James at a public event, he’s manhandled by Sharpe James’ `brute squad.’ Most will earn this very unsettling, as this is a publicly elected figure in a public spot who is, in essence, acting like a thug.

That we never touch on the political issues surrounding the campaign is bewitching and absurd. These are both distinct aspects of the film. It shows us how petite our democracy means in many instances; it isn’t the bad schools/neighborhoods/jobs that dominate voters’ discussions, but who’s “more republican” or “more sad” (both candidates are shaded) or “campaign has more money” or “has visited a strip joint”.

In the raze, we contemplate Sharpe James spend every slimy tactic at his disposal in order to pick up votes (including bringing in paid James’ supporters from out-of-state to abet bolster assist on election day) . Booker doesn’t obtain the election, thus giving the viewer a very negative understanding of Modern Jersey politics. But all is not gloom and doom.

In 2006, Cory Booker returned to the mayoral hurry and took Newark by storm. Sharpe James uncharacteristically dropped from the urge for unknown reasons while a current runner took up situation against Booker, only to be squashed in the largest landslide glean of any mayoral hurry in Recent Jersey history.

But the bitter taste of the 2002 run unexcited lingers in audiences minds after watching Street Fight. It’s a tough film to sight, because we all want to own that our democracy is flawless when, in fact, it has so many problems and shady dealings as to gain one ill at the prospect.

Q: Why should anyone west of the Delaware River care about the Newark, NJ mayoral rush of 2002? A: For me, this was an edge-of-the-seat suspenser that wouldn’t let go long enough to let me pick a phone call. If you don’t know how it ends, glimpse it for the cliffhanging epic it tells. For anyone else, this compact tiny documentary should be seen for its relentless journalistic energy. As American politics becomes more and more dominated by alarm tactics, the corporate-owned news organizations have abdicated their duties as the Fourth Estate of our republic, leaving independents like Marshall Curry to buy up the mantle. STREET FIGHT compares favorably with the classic MEDIUM Frigid, and entertains like a latter-day version of THE CANDIDATE.

We seek Sharpe James, a six-term incumbent, try every dirty trick in the book to absorb on to his office: he threatens business closures for those who effect rival Cory Booker’s heed in their windows; he smears the Booker campaign with bogus sex scandals; he even uses the fact that out of the two African American candidates, Booker is less “sincere” for having lighter skin than his. Both sides wrangle for endorsements, meet with community groups, and sprint every dollar not nailed down. The kind of encourage room manipulations old-fashioned by James would seem highly amazing in a fictional film. Although it may assume plot in a different city, this documentary is the perfect companion allotment to Season Three of THE WIRE. The similarities between the two political environments is uncanny.

Booker himself, 32 years obsolete at the time of the hasten, is all forward momentum. Barak Obama is clearly not the only young politician who threatens to breathe some life into our dying democracy. On the eve of the election, a child who has objective touched Booker tells Curry, off camera, to smell her hands. “Why, does he have a smell? ” “Yes,” says the girl. “He smells like the future.”

Dr. Who is Forty (actually he’s 900, but like the Doctor, the demonstrate had been around in one design or another since 1964) . The BBC famous in 2005 by bringing the demonstrate wait on to television for its 27th season (or as it is more consistently called: SEASON ONE) in a glossy, fast-paced enough to satisfy contemporary audiences, while smooth conscious of its roots. This Spot contains all 13 season one episodes from the rebirth of the longest running sci-fi series in TV history. The producers clearly have a respect and concept of the UK icon. Obviously, fans, the creators do things with the present we would do ourselves.

Doctor Who has always has a whisper defined by the decade each in tune with its era and this holds suitable to the current Doctor Who. This Doctor is almost child-like in his enthusiasm and wonder. Featuring the Doctor as played by Christopher Eccleston (Shallow Grave, Gone in 60 Seconds), infusing the character with tall intensity and humanity, while remaining mysterious and alien, along with his companion Rose played by Billie Piper, growing from an awed slacker to a seasoned site adventurer. However, the format of the prove has changed to 45 min. parts, some 2 parters ending with cliffhangers, some without. Like any “original” series there are helpful episodes and not-so-good ones, the upside here is MOST of these are tall episodes! The 40 year history of the series isn’t squeezed into one pilot, through-out the year we bag a trickle of back-story, some conventional, like his time/space machine looks like a police-call-box, and some fresh back-story, like the fact that his urge, the TIMELORDS have been wiped out in a TIME WAR.

The PILOT story: “ROSE” introduces his novel companion Rose Tyler who is attacked by mannequins (or AUTONS) in the department store where she works. She meets the Doctor and the pair kill up fighting to assign the world. The pacing of this one, like most of the 13 fresh episodes, is like lightning, and the Autons have never been scarier. The TARDIS (interior) has never looked better or bigger.

Next in “THE Extinguish of the WORLD” The Doctor offers Rose a chance to go anyplace, anytime, they extinguish up 5 Billion years in the future above the Earth objective before it ends. But someone has sabotaged the very observation satellite they’re on. Not a poor episode, it shoots very high with a “Restaurant at the Waste of the Universe” motif and cinematically accomplishes it, also reveals that the Doctor is the “Last of the Timelords.”

In the 3rd memoir the Doctor and Rose meet Charles Dickens and what appears to be ghosts animating the listless! 4 Weddings and a Funeral’s Simon Calow plays the Victorian author brilliantly and the Victorian witness of the episode is well executed.

The 2005 series won the 2006 BROADCAST AWARD for BEST DRAMA SERIES adding to the series’ successes at the National Television Awards (voted Most Celebrated Drama), TV Moments, and the BBC 2005 Drama Awards! The show’s two stars (Eccleston and Piper) scooped the most approved actor and actress honors in the awards voted by the public. Dr. Who (2005) was also nominated for not only the 2006 HUGO Award (announcing winners on Aug 26), but on May 7th it WON 5 of the most prestigious award British Television has to offer: the BAFTAS Awards (British Academy of FILM and TELEVISION ARTS) out of the 14 categories it was nominated. Winning for BEST DRAMA SERIES, BEST DIRECTOR, BEST MAKE-UP, BEST COSTUME, BEST DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY and the PIONEER AUDIENCE AWARD which was voted for by the British public (kind of like the US People’s Choice Award) .

WHEN it aired on SCI-FI FRIDAYS @8 PM CENTRAL there were some lines and moments sever from the new BBC versions, these are the complete episodes.

Hopefully SCI-FI will recall up SEASON 2, starting with the post-regeneration CHRISTMAS INVASION because have it or not the next 13 even better!!

BBC has decided to not area any genuine extras on these disks. There is no commentary track on these disks, but if you catch the stout station version of these, there is a commentary on every episode. As well as a number of late the scenes featurettes. All they had to do was hold the disks and features that they had already pressed and station them on these disks.

So, if you like extras on your dvds, set your money and win the paunchy station all in one go. Otherwise, this is a fun series and the only reason that I’m marking it down two stars is because of the lacking of extra recount that is already on a previously released edition.

Don’t Say A World is like spending the night with an ex-High School girlfriend. You’ll accumulate what you were looking for and you probably won’t loathe yourself in the morning. This isn’t a grand film. Its debatable whether its really even a genuine film but its does what it does effectively. Michael Douglas is a psychyatrist whose daughter is kidnapped by criminal Sean Bean. Seems that Douglas’ patient, Brittany Murphy, has a number in her head that Bean desperately wants and if Douglas doesn’t accept Murphy to bellow that number, then Bean will destroy Douglas’ daughter. Plot-wise, this splendid great by the numbers and there aren’t a whole lot of surprises. Its predictable entertainment but, and I don’t mean this to be insulting at all, people who appreciate thrillers where the righteous guys are unquestionably kindly and the abominable guys are, without a doubt, inferior will probably devour this. Those who ask shades of gray in their plots will want to go glance Memento again. Again, I don’t mean that to be a condemnation of this film or any of the many people who enjoyed it. Sometimes you’re in the mood for a Memento and sometimes you’re in the mood for a Don’t Say A Word and when I saw this film, I was more in the mood for a Memento. However, all that said, Don’t Say A Word pushes its buttons with an unmistakable skill. Douglas and Bean are fine powerful playing the characters they always seem to play but they’re both wonderful enough actors with enough camouflage presence that its not as annoying as watching Sylvester Stallone sleepwalk through some of his lesser, non-Rambo action films. As well, Brittany Murphy is a extraordinary actress even if her character annoyed me. To an extent, she’s going through the same paces as in Girl, Interrupted but, like Douglas and Bean, she does it well. Gary Felder’s a proper director and keeps the predictable sage from dragging. If you’re looking for a chance to objective chill out for two hours and gape some dreadful guys find what’s coming to them (and, let’s be unprejudiced, after everything that’s happened over the past month — who isn’t? ), this film might be for you. If its not, well, at least you didn’t pay money for Pearl Harbor again.

When his career stagnated in the leisurely 80′s after his Oscar net for WALL STREET, Michael Douglas reinvented himself as an actor as the poet of middle ragged paranoia. From BASIC INSTINCT to FALLING DOWN to WAR OF THE ROSES to DISCLOSURE to THE GAME, no one other than Alfred Hitchcock (though Hitchcock did it from unhurried the camera) has made more of a career by cataloging on celluloid the litany of fears (both rational and irrational) that plague the psyche of the middle-aged American male–sex, drugs, violence, and career as destructive forces forever chipping away at the family and at the self.

Viewed in this light, it is understandable why Douglas took this role. It carries forward many of the actor’s popular themes–alienation, the threatened family, justified paranoia. That being said though, this is not among Douglas’s best work. His performance is once again admirable, but the direction is ho-hum, and while it starts off with originality and promise, it falls come the ruin wait on into the same venerable action and suspense movie cliches, and at times it is detectable that a script doctor was brought in to rewrite definite scenes. The result is a modestly gripping thriller that makes for an OK Saturday night, but isn’t likely to gather Michael Douglas an invite to Oscar night.

I suspect that the title of this production, “The Original Adventures of Tarzan,” has been confusing to some folks since it was only “recent” in 1935 when Edgar Rice Burroughs himself produced it!

What we have here is an archaic “cliffhanger” of twelve episodes which were originally shown at theaters, one week at a time, to speed alongside main feature films. The plan was to withhold you “hanging” so you’d approach help the next week to leer what happened — someone was always about to be heinously knocked off at the ruin of each episode, (except for in the last one) .

The yarn is this: Tarzan and his companions, headed by Major Martling, go head-to-head in the Guatemalan jungle against the imperfect P.B. Raglan in an grief to get “The Green Goddess,” a priceless stale artifact which also contains the formula for a super-explosive. Of course, the Green Goddess is in the hands of first one and then another of the two factions and it becomes definite that only Tarzan can finalize its possession for the great guys. There is also a sub-plot of Tarzan going to the state for the priority purpose of rescuing his primitive friend, d’Arnot.

This film was actually shot on space, for the most section, in Guatemala where the action is supposed to have taken dwelling so that is a stout plus of this film. Herman Brix, a 1928 Olympic shot-putter, plays Tarzan but he later changed his name to Bruce Bennett and went on play roles in films like “Adore of the Sierra Madre” (1948) and, “Sahara” (1943) . His “Tarzan cry” sounds a grand deal like Minnie Pearl’s “How-deeee!!!” but, other than that, he makes for a ravishing believable jungle hero.

This particular print has been digitally re-mastered and marketed by the Columbia River Film Group. Of course, the film is shot in unlit and white, full-screen, and runs for a total of FOUR HOURS! It’s all on a single DVD and, having owned this serial issued by a couple of different distributors, this particular one is as favorable as it gets, a fairly definite print with decent sound. The film is in the public domain so it can be copied and sold by anyone and unfavorable copies abound.

This serial was later heavily edited to execute the film, “Tarzan and the Green Goddess” (1938), which only runs for a total of 90 minutes. The serial version is by far the advantageous choice of the two productions if you are really into the older shaded and white adventure films.

Highly recommended to appropriate audiences.

I have read all of the Burroughs Tarzan books. As considerable as I’ve enjoyed the various film incarnations of the character from the ’40′s through the ’60′s, none of them were as conclude to the character as written as is Herman Brix in this serial. Brix was chosen by Tarzan’s creator ERB himself. The film was produced under ERB, Inc auspices. As such, this 1935 serial closely conforms to the novels in structure: abet and forth between competing expeditions at atrocious purposes, a lost city, death traps, coincidences, and a hurricane at sea.

I have sought out THE Current ADVENTURES OF TARZAN for many years. I viewed it first as a 2 cassette VHS space. I graduated to the 2003 2-disk DVD from Best of Cliff Hanger Serials then to the 1-disk 2005 edition from Alpha Home Entertainment. Each time I was disappointed in the muddiness or flaring of the prints. When I saw that the Pop Flix Family edition was “Digitally Re-mastered/Sound Enhanced” for such a reasonable notice, I could not resist buying yet another release of this serial classic. This is the best rendition of this film that I’ve seen to date.

CAVEAT: Although this print has been re-mastered, it is not fully restored. There are quiet scratches, less than a shrimp that repeats itself in Chapter 3, and some clipped sound towards the destroy. However this is the first print consistently viewable throughout so that one can actually focus on the memoir.

A old French aviator comes to Africa to glean Tarzan. He was on a flight with Tarzan’s expansive friend D’arnot in Guatemala when their plane goes down in a storm. The aviator parachutes only to observe D’arnot promenade the plane down only to be captured by irregular savages. The aviator goes into the jungle with George [a flunky humorous relief - Lewis Sterling] in search of Tarzan.

The aviator is mauled by a lion which is then killed by Tarzan. The aviator dies in Tarzan’s arms, but not before he tells Tarzan of D’arnot’s spot.

Tarzan joins the Martling Expedition already headed for Guatemala in search of the lost city. Martling [Frank Baker] has a notebook containing both directions to the city and instructions on opening a goddess statue stout of jewels and the formula for a gargantuan explosive [? ]. Countering the Martling Expedition is Raglin [Don Castello], an adventurer in the pay of foreign powers, out to capture the goddess for his masters. Also against Raglin is the mysterious Ula Vale [Ula Holt] who eventually joins with Tarzan and Maitling. . [Ula Holt looks very grand like a heroine from a J. Allen St. John illustration from the Tarzan novels especially when racing to set aside Tarzan from the alligators while he's dazed from falling over a large waterfall.]

There are ambushes at sea both going to and leaving from Guatemala. There are death traps going to and escaping from the lost city. While trekking across Guatemala Raglin carries the heavy goddess. He can’t originate it without the book. He never has both the goddess and the book at the same time. Tarzan is opinion humdrum several times. He battles multiple foes [up to hundreds in the lost city] with apparent ease. He never stops or considers his believe life over others. He is equally at ease in town or on ship as he is in the jungle. This is apt to the Tarzan on the page.

Considering the hardships of shooting with sound on space in the jungle, it is distinguished how well this serial matches the spirit of the novels.

MINOR GRIPES: The comical relief is a tat too feckless. N’kima is a chimp rather than a monkey [but the outmoded cinema sidekick]. The queen of the lost city is the frumpiest I’ve ever seen. The young appreciate interest [Martling's daughter & her fiancé] leaves as soon as they can since they have puny to do other than to be do into pains. How did an African lion waste up in a lost city in Guatemala? The last chapter ends too abruptly as if the serial were originally planned for 15 chapters and slit to 12 due to funding. But on the whole, THE Unique ADVENTURES OF TARZAN should please both devotees of the current novels as well as fans of b&w serials of the mid 20th century.

This version is from 2006. There is a 4-disk version from 2007 also offered from Amazon in the $20 rather than $6 range. There have been no reviews as to its content; but unless it is a pristine print with lots of bonus features, I would say that this 1-disk 2006 edition is the version for the interesting to choose. As flawed as it may be, THE Current ADVENTURES OF TARZAN is a must for the collection of any Edgar Rice Burroughs TARZAN aficionado.

Very solid historical perspective of the Aztecs. The DVD gives a very tall belief of a very complex and detailed civilization that is hard to shroud in unbiased an hour. Engaging perspectives from a number of different scholars the DVD gives a beginning to ruin sizable sweep of the Aztec empire. Grand for people/students that are honest starting out, and studying the Aztec Empire.

I usually disfavor cheesy historical reenactments. However, I loved seeing the pleasing feathered headdresses, shimmering chest pieces, and bulky loincloths of the Aztecs. To be unprejudiced, I saw few women being reenacted and that may be a bit problematic. Unexcited, the reenactments helped add a dimension to the ornate and simplistic paintings done of the past empire.

This documentary has interviews from both American and Mexican scholars, it’s not one-sided. The work ends by saying Aztec treasures are mild being found. I adore having that hope that more may be to near.

The documentary was top-focused, meaning the Aztec gods and kings took precedence. I once saw a painting of an Aztec scene which implied that they had clowns. What about those people? Did the Aztecs effect boards on their children’s head to construct them pointy like the Mayas did? What happened in Aztec marketplaces? The film covers Moctezuma and his death. However, according to Stephen Murray’s book “Latin American Homosexualities,” Moctezuma may have been captured by the Spanish by being seduced by a blond, Spanish male youth. That doesn’t advance up in this work. Malinche, the Native woman that may have helped the Spanish, is brought up here. However, the contempt that some unusual Mexicans and Mexican Americans possess for her is not brought up.

In a different documentary by the History Channel on the Incas, it said the Incas predicted their downfall in 1519 by a foreign force. Here too they bring up that prediction with the Aztec. This seems like too great of a coincidence. I wonder if this is something that imperialist cultures have made up or hype in order to excuses the ravages of imperialism or colonialism.

The leisurely 1970s-early 1980s was a time of frenetic activity in the Australian movie industry, one which saw the production of films such as “Picnic at Hanging Rock”, “My Sparkling Career”, “Gallipoli” and “Breaker Morant”. However even against such good company “Newsfront” stands out as the finest film of its time, and possibly the best Australian film yet made.

Most Australian films of that time, even the very best, tended to note a slightly self-conscious “Australianness”. It was historically a time when Australians rediscovered their “roots” and were alive to to display their culture to the world. Each memoir is narrated and get perfect bedtime stories for kids (or adults like me who like these types of story-telling/old-fashion cartoons) . Each narrative is delicious and include read-a-long text, which you can turn off as well.

Also, since this DVD status is being marketed as “Halloween Stories” three of the stories (The Three-Legged Cat, The Three Robbers and Shrimp Tim And The Dauntless Sea Captain) aren’t really Halloween related or spooky. They’re extraordinary stories but seem out of region on a Halloween DVD.

I was watching the previews on the DVD for “Sunless Sheep” when the trailer for “Broken” came on. In that week’s rentals I had a film called “Broken,” but it was an Indie film starring Heather Graham and Jeremy Sisto and not this film, which turns out to be another example of the torture porn apprehension film, albeit with pretensions. What is appealing is that that both “Broken” films came out in 2006 and that apparently both have fair been released on DVD in the past month. This brings to mind the possibility that somebody would recommend the Heather Graham “Broken” and rent this one by mistake (Don’t laugh, I recommended the Academy Award winning “American Beauty” to a co-worker once and they went to the video store and picked up “American Pie” and could not figure out why anybody would give Jason Biggs and the gang the Oscar) . But the plan of people watching the unpleasant “Broken” was enough to construct me check the other one out to watch how grand harm could be done to the psyche of some unsuspecting soul.

At the originate of the film a title card informs us that “The slave girl is reared in an atmosphere of awe.” The quote is from Harriet A. Jacobs (1813-1897), an American abolitionist who wrote the 1861 book “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl.” Written and directed by the stamp team of Simon Boyes and Adam Mason, this movie is about Hope (Nadja Note), a woman who puts her young daughter to bed one night and wakes up trapped in a coffin-like box. We know from the opening scene of the film that whatever is about to happen to Hope has happened to another woman, who clearly has been pushed beyond her limits. Consequently, given the Jacobs quote the implication is that the title of this alarm film has to do with a woman’s broken spirit. However, in the final analysis most of what gets broken here is physical rather than spiritual.

Hope is being held in the forest by a man (Eric Colvin), whose goal in dragging women out there is not to torture, rape, and demolish them, but to benefit them obtain their minds proper to being his domestic slave (unless the tending the garden bit is supposed to reference “Candide” in some diagram I have not yet figured out) . So when his victims are required to consume a pointed stick to launch up an incision in their abdomens while traipse by the neck to a tree while balanced on a perch nailed several feet off the ground, it might involve blood (and sometimes guts), but it is not torture but a test. One of several as the man attempts to demolish Hope. But unlike previous victims, who have not worked out as the man has intended, Hope has something to hang on to: the possibility that her daughter is unexcited alive.

This is a grievous budget film and if you go through the DVD’s special features you will get out that Boyes and Mason came up with the script as something that they could afford to film: if you shoot in the forest you do not have to disaster about building sets and if one of you is married (at the time) to the lead actress that explains how you regain somebody to invent a movie like this when you are shooting outdoors in England during the winter. If the movie delivered more of what it promised, it would have gone over better with me, especially given that opening quote which set aside me in a particular frame of mind. “Broken” is different from most splatter flicks in that it takes situation over several weeks, which is appropriate to the psychological dimension. Unbiased do not examine to understand how this nut gets his victims out there in the first state, because that is not share of the game here.

For all of its shortcomings, the demolish game of “Broken” is probably the best piece of the movie. What happens to Hope and the man, respectively, struck me as being different and quite possibly modern for this type of genre, and I ended up rounding up on the movie because of that (usually the ending of a splatter flick is the weakest section, especially when they contrive some monotonous intention for the killer to gain killed) . There are other decent parts of the film as well: the parts that are command to revulse you in this movie do so, the cinematography does not leer low-budget, and there were several nice cuts to righteous conclude, so this is not a case of unbiased wallowing in blood and gore. “Broken” is not the torture porn film its trailer makes it out to be, but there is enough here to recommend checking it out.

Dark, vicious, relentless, brutal, violent, sadistic, grueling, startling, curved, horrifying….some of my celebrated adjectives when attached to panic cinema. BROKEN encompasses all of that and then some. This is a vicious improper budget affair based on a good chronicle, supposedly (I searched Wikipedia but couldn’t accumulate information on any accurate events) .

A woman wakes up trapped in a wooden box. Not determined how she got there, she’s honest there. Man, talk about freaky! After a day of inconceivable dread and frantic attempts, she breaks free only to realize she’s in the middle of the woods. Her sadistic captor is there waiting with one sick agenda–break her spirit. What follows next is a series of the most ugly tortures, some sick depravity that is incredibly hard to contemplate.

Yes, it makes SAW discover like HEEHAW. The harsh bloody events grate on your mind and turn your soul into shredded cheese. Brooootal.

This movie is extremely effective in pulling you in to this of vortex of isolation and unspeakable cruelty. It touches on the conclude of the prolonged desperation and victimization, Stockhom Syndrome kicking in.

FINAL GRADE 3.5 Stars

A mountainous job by the director, however the extended brutality is breeze to offset many viewers. I subtracted 1 star due to the most ridiculous ending. Detached a solid dose of sickness brought to us like only Dimension Obscene can.

Gary Cooper stars in this intense Western as a aged outlaw, now reformed, who finds himself trapped by circumstances with his traditional gang. Cooper is on a suppose that is held up by the gang, and left slow, he, Julie London, and Arthur O’Connell meet up with the gang and examine firsthand their brutality and violence. The gang is headed by Cooper’s uncle, Lee J. Cobb, who is gratified to sight Cooper return. He’s planning a tremendous bank heist, the heist to destroy all heists, and wants Cooper to be a fraction of it like worn times. Of course, Cooper must net a plan out.

The tension in the film never lets up, as the threat of violence hangs in every scene. Cooper is glowing in one of his last performances, portraying a man who has tried hard to overcome his past, finding himself in a plot where he must literally fight for his survival. London also does well as the saloon singer finally experiencing like, giving a quietly though-provoking performance. Cobb is explosive as usual, helping to give the film some of its tension and edge.

Man Of The West is well photographed in colour, with empty spaces looming everywhere in the backdrop of the struggle. Director Anthony Mann keeps everything simple, if not elemental, not shying away from portraying the brutality of the characters and the area. Other than an obviously “stagey” fight between Cooper and one of the gang (lots of easy to situation fraudulent punches), there is a sad realism throughout the movie.

Man Of The West may not be a very well known Western, but it deserves to be seen.

This is truly a splendid film. Acting — especially Gary Cooper’s Link Jones, a man who is drawn benefit into his earlier life as a killer — and direction and script and cinemaphotography, they are all flawless. The only flaw is in this video, from MGM/UA. I’ve written them, trying to gather them to release this in letterbox and DVD, all to no avail. Do not capture this pan-and-scan version, since director Anthony Mann took rotund advantage of the wide camouflage to scream his narrative. In the pan-and-scan version, Cooper is missing from considerable of the action. This is because it is a typically tight-lipped Cooper performance, thus he is lopped out of the frame — even though he is central to every single scene in the entire film! This is a attractive film which is deserving of a better fate than MGM/UA video distribution. TCM shows it in letterbox, earn it there.
